Type Locality and Naming
Kuqa Depression, NW Tarim. The Yageliemu Formation was erected by the 107 Department of Petroleum Administration bureau of Xinjiang (Wang Aimin, 1975), and was first cited publicly by the Compiling Group for the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 1981. Lithology and Thickness
The Yageliemu Formation is composed light purple, grayish purple conglomerate and sandstone, with cross bedding; and with a thickness of 122 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation is in a disconformable or an unconformable contact with the underlying Kalazha Fm.
Upper contact
The formation contacts conformably with overlying Shushanhe Fm.
Regional extent
It distributed in the Baicheng, Kuqa areas of Xinjiang. It is found to occur only in the northern monoclinal belt seated between the Kezlenur Gully and the Tarake River, with the Kapushaliang River section being the best in its development..

Fossils
It yields ostracods (as represented by Darwinula tubiformis) and fish fossils.

Depositional setting
The formation is suggested as fluvial deposits with a great change in its lithology.
